The College of Piping Tutor 1 New Edition

First produced in 1952, this book by the College of Piping's then Joint Principals Seumas MacNeill and Thomas Pearston, is by far the biggest selling book on learning to play the bagpipe ever issued, selling to date around 500,000 copies. This is the book that has guided the progression of thousands of learners from the basic techniques to successfully mastering the great highland bagpipe.

In this new edition (summer 2017), the book’s original integrity has been maintained – a testament to the authors’ clarity, coherence, and ‘connection’ with the learner – whilst taking cognisance of current PDQB guidelines.

The Bagpipe Music of John McLellan, 1875-1949

john mclellanThis book presents in one volume the compilation of the music of John McLellan (Dunoon) including some previously unpublished tunes and many that have been out of print for almost one hundred years.

John McLellan did not publish his own collection; he was not a competitive piper as we understand that description today and many of his tunes have been lost in the passage of time. John's mastery of composition and capture of melody make his works timeless.

Today's pipers will be surprised and delighted to add some of the forgotten treasures to their piping pleasures.

Ian K. Murray has been a familiar face in the piping scene in Scotland since the 1980s. A long-time member of the Piobaireachd Society, the Royal Scottish Pipers’ Society, the Lowland & Border Pipers’ Society, Ian is a piper, judge, occasional composer, enthusiast … and wit. His acute observations and assessments of piping were published regularly in the Piping Times and The Scotsman. This book is essentially a collection of those articles. It’s a great read and will serve as a useful aide-memoire for future generations. The writing is concise, well-informed and at times downright funny.
