Uist & Barra kicks off on March 3 at the College

The solo piping year begins with the Glasgow Uist & Barra Association’s annual competition on Saturday, March 3. The ‘Uist & Barra is always keenly awaited as it is one of the most convivial competitions in the solo piping calendar.

Held at the College of Piping, the 15 competitors invited to compete this year are:

Alasdair Henderson, Craig Sutherland, Jamie Forrester, Angus MacColl, Faye Henderson, Peter McCalister, Ben Duncan, Callum Beaumont, Cameron Drummond, Finlay Johnston, Glenn Brown, Iain Speirs, Roddy MacLeod, Sarah Muir and Willie McCallum.

The judges are: Willie Morrison, Jack Taylor and Allan MacDonald who will make his judging debut since being appointed to the Solo Piping Judges Association.

Last year’s competition saw Callum Beaumont triumph. The Bo’ness piper took the piobaireachd with MacLeod of Colbecks.

Entry is £12 for adults and £6 for those aged 16 and under.
